Diaries Worth Writing, Diaries Worth Reccing

I like MyDD.  This is a lively and interesting place that - at least until it finds a purpose and draws a lot of people to it - has a small population and therefore an intimate feel.  As much as my personal satisfaction may be served by having such a small community, I would think this is not the purpose of MyDD.

In fact, if all we do is circle our own drain we can be certain that the population here will not get bigger and, in the end, will all go away.

So, I would like to suggest to the many capable diarists out there that they find something worth writing about on a progressive blog, and write about it.

Just a few random suggestions about some of the small things going on in the world worth writing about:

Millions of people are being impacted by flooding in this country right now.  One presidential candidate offered his condolences and prayers, another filled sandbags.

Rumors abound of a plan to keep Iraq under US control indefinitely.

An estimated 376,000 children who could benefit from an Illinois healthcare program are not enrolled, and on June 21 hundreds of volunteers will fan out to more than 50 locations in the Chicago area to enroll children in the state program.

Oh, and there is a war goin on in Iraq that is having a lot of negative consequences to real people.  And it is being done "for you".

I'm even willing to bet that there are more than there pertinent points to be made that are not on my list. Something about an election season going on...

I am certain that if some of the folks here looked beyond their own navel and writing something counter to the current diary list, this community could make a small dent on the world outside of MyDD.

Then maybe - just maybe - we will do something that will justify MyDD exising.

It's almost as if we're still stuck in spring 2008, instead of less than five months from an election that will determine a lot of really important things.

And people are drowning in this country (2.00 / 4)

and dying in other countries where we have interests worth discussing.

You could only imagine that those who would like us to fail are happy to read our diaries right now.  And you can define "us" pretty broadly and have that remain true.

What? (1.00 / 2)

You don't want to talk for another week about whether or not sexism affected the outcome of the primaries that ended two weeks ago?

Way to call the kids back from recess.  ;-)

Please change your sig or I will need to troll rate you for calling out 'student guy', 'joementum', and my favorite poster, of course, 'fail.'

I did a search (none / 0)

and this "Student Guy" you claim to be talking about is an idiot.  No bones about I hate that guy almost as much as I hate rankles (ooh I hate rankles).  JoeMentum and Fail aren't posters here.

Therefore I am safe from any troll ratings.

Viva my sig and the idiocy of Student Guy

Re: Diaries Worth Writing, Diaries Worth Reccing (none / 0)

There are plenty of community blogs that cover all the things going on in the world. I would prefer that MyDD continue to focus on the due diligence of politics. Take a look at the pre-presidential diaries 3000 pages ago for examples:

http://www.mydd.com/section/Diary/3000

I'd prefer more incisive political diaries with more substantive comment threads, even at the risk of losing audience. The mindless cheer-leading and knee-jerk rejection of critical views, at its worst extreme in the piling on in every Jerome diary, doesn't improve anyone's understanding and is boring.

The site is slowly reverting to its basic mission,  as passion on both sides burns itself out, so I am happy with where things are going.

Heh, I totally (2.00 / 1)

just wrote a diary that had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the world. Oops. Oh, well. I intended it to be incentive for some of the staunchest Clinton supporters to support Obama. Probably won't work, though.

It was nicely done (2.00 / 1)

I would have told you in the diary, but it doesn't really apply to me as I am not in that category of people you said it was for.

I both agree with Chris' diary here, & also loved Sricki's. We need more non-candidate diaries, and we need to win in november. I need more coffee.

Smoking a clove cigarette, drinking Peet's ice-coffe, and reading about McCain's grand-dad's pursuit of bloody colonial conquests in the Pacific...I'm a happy camper.

Another diary to "save MyDD".  Gee, wonder how many MyDD regualrs were chased away by the type of antics I've personlly experienced from the likes of you (and at least a dozen others)?  Go back to KOS!  MyDD will survive.  And then many of us will come back.

Re: So you can go back to fighting the primaries? (1.50 / 2)

I promised myself I would do this sort of shit anymore.

But:

S.T.F.U.

both of you.

neither of you are allowed to condemn either. You both prime examples of pathetic purity trolls.

Apparently fucking everything has to be interpretated through the Clinton/Obama primary.

You chrisblask, are just as big a problem as the original commentator.

I for one am sick of this constant sick little holier then thou fights between the Clinton and Obama supporters,

You know how you people sound:

No you people should kiss my ass because we lost, and you were mean!

No, you should kiss our ass because we won and you were mean!

It's like listing to Fourth graders and after months and months of it, most of the non fan boys and girls of a candidate are sick of it.

W.t.f. is this about?:

I like MyDD.  This is a lively and interesting place that - at least until it finds a purpose and draws a lot of people to it - has a small population and therefore an intimate feel.  As much as my personal satisfaction may be served by having such a small community, I would think this is not the purpose of MyDD.

W.t.f.? It might surprise you, but Mydd was here long before you signed up. It has had a purpose, until ignorant fans broke the damn site. I think you should have less presumption how you would "fix" this site, while your kind of people (regardless of who you support) fucking broke it.  What the hell do know about the purpose of MyDD? How about we return to the purpose it's had for years and years now? Providing in dept technical analysis?

Condescending crap like: "I am certain that if some of the folks here looked beyond their own navel and writing something counter to the current diary list, this community could make a small dent on the world outside of MyDD.

Then maybe - just maybe - we will do something that will justify MyDD exising."

Show that you are the least qualified person to make any comment about this site as you apparently don't even know what this site did during the 2004 and 2006 elections.

Find a purpose?

it had one, and the people here were damn good at it too. and if you want to blame people for the fact that it hasn't now, look in the damn mirror.

But I give up. I'll leave. This isn't my site anymore It's for people like you and your mirror images, so you can fight about which side is destroying the site and writing exactly the same sort of diaries and comments, but only inverted.

Me, I'll be over at open left, Bowers and Stollerare closest to what MyDD used to be about.

Good luck with "finding" a "purpose" for this site.  I'm sure everybody will be simply overjoyed at finally having one after all these years of purposeless discussions about analysis , poll reading and developing new electoral theories.

The new future will be bright indeed!

OK, what do you have other than criticism (none / 0)

of my criticism?

Great, you provided good content in the past. Provide some now - that would be cool, too.  Seniority does not make you in any way more valid than anyone else - particularly if your approach is to hit and run.

Yes, my involvment has been during the Democratic primary, so that is what I know this site for.  If you want to add your learned two bits to it, please do so. My comment was that we seem to still be fighting that primary - which you will notice is now over - so if you want to break that cycle you will find no quarrels with me.

Come back and add to the conversation with something other than criticism of my criticism.  Otherwise you're just griping.

Reminder:

Find your voice, and realize that you have power, whoever you are, wherever you are, and in whichever community you belong to.  Find it, and use it, because in the end, that's all we really are, the people we talk to, the people we listen to, the people we love and the people we hate, who are often one and the same.

I'm unaware of any primaries left to fight.  Please clarify.
In any event, a site that promotes Democratic values ought to have subscribers who do the same.

Re: Diaries Worth Writing, Diaries Worth Reccing (2.00 / 2)

so diarist - why don't you write some of these diaries?

instead of lecturing us on the topics we do have, roll up those sleeves and produce some of those diaries.

Thanks, I think I will. (none / 0)

This diary was the few minutes I had online since yesterday and before driving for two hours.  It was meant to be a quick fire-and-forget commentary in between other activities...

...and it made the rec list.

Just shows the need for some good content here.

My next real diary is evolving itself now.  Having a conversation with a retired Colonel that should be interesting.

Why don't you write something, too?  I five minutes I googled up the links in this diary, there is no shortage of stories that could use some attention.

MyDD (none / 0)

has always been a place for substance and ranting. Many at SecuringAmerica.com were afraid to come here because it was to rough. This was like.... oh... 2004.

I always compared it to Philadelphia. Nice place, lots of history and certainly rough. Also, aren't some of the "big guys" from Philly?
